Kapal Kontainer (Container Ship)<\/p>\n
Digunakan untuk mengangkut kontainer melalui laut. Kapal kontainer khusus dibuat untuk mengangkut kontainer. Beberapa kapal dapat mengangkut ribuan kontainer. Kapasitas kontainer sering diukur dalam TEU (Twenty foot Equivalent Unit) atau FEU (Fourty foot Equivalent Unit). Satu kontainer TEU (20′) berukuran panjang 5,898m; lebar 2,352m; tinggi 2,393m; kapasitas 33,2 cbm; dan berat maksimum 22,1 ton. Satu kontainer FEU (40′) berukuran panjang 12, 032m; lebar 2,352m; tinggi 2,393m; kapasitas 67,7cbm; dan berat maksimum 28,75 ton. Dan masih terdapat sati jenis kontainer lagi yaitu 40’HC (High Cube) yang berukuran panjang 12, 032m; lebar 2,352m; tinggi 2,698m; kapasitas 76,4cbm; dan berat maksimum 29,6 ton. Sebuah kapal kontainer ada yang dapat menampung 1.000 kontainer 40′ atau 2.000 kontainer 20′ atau dapat dikatakan kapal tersebut memiliki kapasitas 1.000 FEU atau 2.000 TEU. Setelah tahun 2006, kapal kontainer terbesar mampu mengangkut lebih dari 15.000 TEU. Kontainer di atas kapal biasanya ditumpuk hingga tujuh tingkat tingginya. Semakin besar kapal kontainer tentunya membutuhkan kapasitas jalur laut yang dalam sehingga tidak semua pelabuhan bisa dimasuki. Selain itu kapal kontainer yang sangat besar juga membutuhkan fasilitas penanganan yang khusus pula termasuk kapasitas terminal.<\/p>\nKapal Kontainer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Di Amerika Utara, kontainer sering dikirimkan dengan kereta api yang terdiri dari beberapa gerbong (flatcar). Flat car ini berbentuk datar dan mampu mengangkut 2 (dua) susun kontainer (double stack) per gerbong. Pengangkutan kontainer dengan kereta api juga digunakan di beberapa bagian Australia dan Inggris. \nDi Amerika Utara juga terdapat kereta api yang memiliki flatcar untuk mengangkut kontainer (COFC – Container On Flat Car) dan trailer (Trailer On Flat Car). Dalan transportasi intermodal, truk sering digunakan untuk mengangkut barang yang menghubungkan transportasi laut dan kereta api. Jembatan Darat (Land Bridges)<\/p>\n
Istilah land bridges pada umumnya digunakan jika pengiriman barang dari satu negara ke negara lainnya tidak bisa langsung melalui laut tetapi harus melalui darat. Pesawat (Airplane)<\/p>\n
Pesawat yang besar biasanya dapat digunakan untuk mengangkut barang dalam kontainer. Kontainer yang digunakan di pesawat berbeda dengan kontainer yang digunakan di kapal laut. Saluran pipa biasanya digunakan untuk mengirimkan gas atau cairan (minyak, pupuk cair, dan benda cair lainnya) antar negara. Sering tidak disadari oleh masyarakat umum karena saluran pipa biasanya ditempatkan di bawah tanah.
